What is Bluetooth 5.0 and what are the specifications and applications of Bluetooth 5.0? Indeed, many mesh networks are characterized as having “self-healing” properties, so the more nodes on a mesh, the better. Traditionally, many of the systems and technologies used in the deployment of mesh networks have relied on the IEEE 802.15.4 standard, which defines Layers 1 and 2 of the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) model (the physical and data link layers, respectively). Bluetooth is a wireless specification developed by Ericsson late in the last century and now controlled by the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG).

Bluetooth mesh networking uses the Bluetooth Low Energy (LE) protocol, and is compatible with Bluetooth v4.0 specification and higher.

Mesh networking is a new topology available for Bluetooth Low Energy (LE) devices that enables many-to-many (m:m) communications. It's optimized for creating large-scale node networks and is ideally suited for building automation, sensor networks, and asset tracking solutions. Bluetooth Meshの仕様について、Bluetooth SIGで公開されている「Mesh Profile Specification 1.0.1」に基づき、学習を兼ねて記載して行こうと思っています。本文章では、6章の「プロキシプロトコル」について記載いたします。 Nordic’s recently introduced nRF5 SDK for Mesh allows developers to start designing Bluetooth mesh applications with the company’s nRF51 and nRF52 Series SoCs. Nordic’s implementation of the Bluetooth mesh stack includes some useful features that aren’t included in the Bluetooth mesh 1.0 specification. The Bluetooth mesh specifications define those product behaviors in terms of granular, standard building blocks called models. In part due to this interoperability, Bluetooth mesh has become the clear choice for large-scale device networks – from connected lighting to controlling complex smart building and industrial systems.
